Knowledge & Understanding
In this area of learning children are developing the skills, knowledge and understanding that help them to make sense of the world. This forms the foundation for later work in science, history, geography, design and technology and information and communication technology (ICT). Opportunities are provided for all children to solve problems, make decisions, experiment, predict, plan and question in a varied range of contexts; and to explore and find out about their environment, and people and places that have significance in their lives. Activities are based on first-hand experience, and are planned to include a wide range of activities inside and outside that attract children’s interest and curiosity and should be imaginative and enjoyable.
Cowboys & Angels Play-Learning
The activities we pursue account for the diverse needs of the children in our care, including rest time and quiet, splashing water, play with sand through to talking, singing, working in groups, pairs or individually and leaving then returning to unfinished activities. In this way we create an environment that is truly child focussed allowing children to steer the choice of resources and equipment through the day.
Our educational specialist has planned a comprehensive topic-based programme
to provide stimulating activities addressing the six areas of learning.
